Arthritis, Bursitis &
Tendonitis

Arthritis

A word ending in -itis is usually refers to some form of inflammation. Through chiropractic treatments and myofascial release, we can relieve the pain associated with inflammation in the musculoskeletal system.

Arthritis is degeneration and inflammation of a joint that causes pain, stiffness and continues to degenerate fast if there is no intervention. Arthritis can often be caused by general wear and tear as we use our joints and get older. This type of arthritis is called osteoarthritis. Chiropractic care can better align joints and slow the progression. Another form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, is an autoimmune disease. While chiropractic care does not address this root cause, it can help manage the condition.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis is the painful inflammation of the tendons that hold the muscles to the bones. A healthy tendon is both strong and flexible. An unhealthy tendon becomes thick, stiff, painful and inflamed. And when it does, it changes the way you move and will end up causing unhealthy compensations like muscles shortening or joint misalignments.

Tendonitis is associated with a tenderness or dull aching pain around joints, especially when moving.

Tendon injuries can stem from injuries or, from repetitive motions, prolonged positions or bad gait, posture, or ergonomics. Tendon injuries can also stem from imbalances in your body – for example, if a muscle has shortened, it will pull on your tendons which stretches or even tears them and it will often cause the attached bone or joint to misalign.

While the body’s natural inflammation response is part of the healing process, in some cases the body is unable to heal without additional help. Therefore, the tendons remain constantly and painfully inflamed. So, it is important to seek chiropractic care when you notice any issues with your tendons.

Bursitis

Bursitis is a painful inflammation of the bursae caused by repetitive motions especially when there is poor form, which are protective padding that act as cushions for your bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Your tendons or bones can rub on top of your bursa and if your muscle, for example, is very tight it will exert even more pressure into the bursa.  So, it is important to get to these root contributors and unwind this system both for relief and to prevent future recurrence. Bursitis mostly affect the joints in your elbow, hip and shoulder.
